Cook County Property Tax Bills
Cook County bills each tax year in two installments, and both go to the Cook County Treasurer. The first is an estimate, 55% of last year's total. The second carries your new assessment, this year's tax rates and your exemptions. These guides explain what each line on the bill means, when each installment is due, the ways to pay and what each costs, and what happens if you pay late: 0.75% a month on the unpaid balance. If your assessment is reduced, the lower tax shows on your second-installment bill the following year.
